All the information we have about the voters in the recent US election
shows that people who voted for Bush were much more likely to be worried
about security than those who voted for Kerry. Similarly, those who
considered secuity the most important issue were much more likely to
vote for Bush than for Kerry.
Cheney repeatedly hammered home the theme that voting for Kerry would
lead to increased attacks on Americans, going so far as to talk about
"mushroom-shaped clouds" as the result of a Kerry victory.
Now John Ashcroft tells us that it was all a lie: that security was a
non-issue. In his resignation letter, echoing Bush's earlier claim that
combat operations were over, wrote, "The objective of securing the
safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved." According
to Ashcorft, all security concerns were taken care of more than two
months before there could have been a President Kerry.

Yabbut, you have to scare the people into voting the "right way".

That statement hit me like a brick when I saw it on the news
yesterday. What in the world could he have been thinking about when he
wrote it?

The securing of our safety from terror is nice, but I'm even more
impressed that those of us living in the US are now living in a
crime-free society. No rapes, no murders, no Commerce Secretaries
returning to the oil and gas industry to cash in on his own decisions.
For fear of Ashcroft, not once has a merchant even dared to overcharge
me or short-change me.

Is that a plural "his"? (Or did "not one" reach your brain but not
your fingers?)

You may not want to spend too much time analyzing the statements of an
individual who lost an election to a dead person.
Incidentally you could at least have given a wave of the hand when you flew
over my house, Charles.

Ah, but I did, Armond. I'm still miffed you didn't wave back.

Maybe he'd seen the BBC documentary "The Power of Nightmares"?
