Out of some inexplicable impulse, I searched Google Groups for him
recently. I turned up a "Mark Wallace," but it prettly clearly wasn't
our Mark Wallace. I think he's gone for good.

By coincidence another AUEer asked me the same question a couple of
days ago. I've not heard from him since he last appeared in Usenet,
so I guess you're right.

Not this year, but the last two years running I emailed him birthday
greetings. No response.

It saddens me that Mark chose just to gone from our lives.

Maybe he didn't choose "to gone"; one never really knows with Usenet.

Oops.

"To be gone," of course.

For some reason I'm reminded of one of Peter Steiner's cartoons for the New
Yorker (which I know because it has also appeared on a greetings card)
which shows ...

... No, I won't describe it - here it is: http://tinyurl.com/9ygh3

(Not that I'm suggesting that Mark W. (or anyone else here) is/was a dog!)
