Hello,
can the sentence "you can now tell X from Y more easily" be made
passive?
E.g. "X can now be TOLD from Y more easily". This does not sound very
well to me. Thanks for any information.

How about "You'll find that X can be told from Y more
easily"?
Incidentally, "sound very well" doesn't sound very good.
See "good[3,adverb] at http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary
for comments on usage.
Or you can think of "sound" as behaving like a copulative
verb, so that in "sound very good", "good" is an adjective. |

Nope, that's a perfectly idiomatic use of the passive, that wouldn't
cause problems for native speakers.

Or, if you'd prefer, use ... "now can be distinguished ... more
clearly." |
