Hi

What is meaning of "gunshot marriage"? I've tried to google it but
there were very few results.

Thanks a lot!

Try again with "shotgun". But it means a marriage forced by reason of
the bride's pregnancy. Don't know how it is where you come from, but
over here you'd probably be too young to remember the practice.

Mike.

It's "shotgun marriage". Google that.

Oh, well, here it is:

shotgun marriage
n.
A marriage that is forced or necessitated because of pregnancy. Also called
shotgun wedding.

You didn't try hard enough. See below how to Google for better and many results.

The explanations you've received so far were only partially helpful.
They defined the term but did not explain *why* such weddings are called
"shotgun weddings" or "shotgun marriages."

The standard scenario is as follows: A young woman (often visibly
pregnant, often rustic) is standing next to the fellow who got her
pregnant; both are in front of the clergyman who is about to perform the wedding.

Standing behind or near the groom, the woman's father is aiming his
*shotgun* at his soon-to-be son-in-law. The unspoken threat by her
father is, "If you don't marry my daughter and thereby save her honor
and our family's honor, I will shoot and kill you!"

You can see many illustrations of such "shotgun weddings" by using
Google's *Images* search and typing "shotgun wedding" into the search
box. Of the resulting 847 hits, the very first image (but not all)
shows exactly what I've described above:
