I was wondering how one might handle a delicate matter. Say I am in a
Masters program and I want to apply for a PhD at another school. How
would I ask the Masters thesis advisor for a recommendation. I could
very well continue and work with him and he may feel bad etc... How do
people who have transferred handle this?

Please note: I am not in graduate school as yet. Just wondering how I
would get letters of recommendation from people most familiar with my
work and brilliant potential They might be hoping I would continue
in their lab.
