ok i havnt been in school in 3 years since high school. i went to the navy after high school then got a medical discharge that year. i have worked for 2 years now and im ready to go to school, i went through the process and my efc is 3013 thats pretty high how am i expected to pay 3013 if im not working next year but instead going to school full time? i made 14k last year and live on my own and am classified and independent so my parents income doesnt come into any factor. if im attending school full time how can i be expected to pay that 3013 shouldnt my efc be Zero? my friend has a zero and she gets a good amount of money and she included her parrents info. i just dont understand how this works. shouldnt i be entitled to a good amount of money to help cover rent and school? as u can tell by my gramer i need to get back in lol. would i get more money if i told them i didnt go to the military and just used my parrents info? my dad doesnt work and my mom makes less than 16k. i read if a parent makes less than 16k then they get an automatic zero ont there efc. so im just confused on how the efc works on determing the money eligable for

There are a ton of options... paying for school can be a confusing crash course. I would start by trying to find scholarships with some of the free scholarship search engines. The one on our site is a good place to start. Also, speak with your financial aid office or a lender to see what you do qualify for. You can probably get some really cheap federal stafford loans and some grants, and your military background certainly will put you in a position to find some scholarships

I agree there are tons of ways to pay for a college education. I would suggest on applying for scholarships and grants as well. I had to result to applying for student loans because of my financial situation. If you need any help finding funding for your education let me know.

I'm 22 years old and I got divorced two years ago. I had to move back in with my mom and I didn't have a job. I wanted to go back to school and I thought since I'm divorced and jobless that I would get a break and not have to pay for that much school. They made me take out a loan under my mother's name and she makes about 10k a year and my father passed away when I was 10. And they're making me take a loan out under my mom's name and they put one under my name. Why couldn't they just put them both under mine. On top of that the loan I took out under my moms name I had to start paying that automatically, I still don't have a job and my boyfriend is trying to help me pay the loan , but the interest is killing us. No matter how much we pay or double or triple our payments the total never seems to go away. They always seem to give the money to people that don't even need it while the poor people have to sit at home and not go to school or go even more broke to get an education. The government sucks!
