With Loughborough Fair around the corner (in the temporal sense at
least), here's a thought.

We sometimes hear of "white-knuckle" rides, meaning the extreme rides of
a fairground or theme park. From the idea of holding on so tight that
your knuckles go white, or so I've heard. (Even if people are more
likely to wave their hands in the air on such things these days!)

But I wonder, has anyone tried to generalise the idea? Maybe a scale of
knuckle colours could be used to rate the thrill level of a ride.

But I'm wondering what a good scale would be. Any ideas?

Stewart.

Your "white knuckles" brought to mind how people will hold on very tight
to the steering wheel when driving a vehicle in certain weather
conditions.

I tend to hold on tight (knuckles going white?) when it's raining
heavily at night, or when driving on a mountain road when the fog sets
in. Ice on roads does it, too. Snow's not so bad.
