On the unveiling of a bust of Brian Jones, the former Rolling Stone:

The cloth covering the bust was removed, to gasps of disbelief
from the die-hard fans who had travelled from all over the
country for the occasion. The head beared little resemblance
to Jones

My theory is that BJ (pardon?) didn't die in that swimming pool; he
just towelled himself down, donned a pair of rimless specs and
reinvented himself as John Denver:

That's the second time in a week or so we've seen problems with "bear"
(that time it was the participle, borne). I suppose spell checkers don't
help with irregular verbs. A test just now suggests ten alternatives for
"beared," but none of them are "bore."

The writer seems to have lost his bearings.
