Are there any tips to give German speakers to learn English.
Dont get me wrong. I am American learning German. I would like tips on
this also. I seem to only understand Austrian, whom I gather only speak
"high" german.

Arnold worked hard on "vine", "wine", "fine".
"The vine made fine wine." "The fine wine vine .."
"A fine vine produces fine wine." usw.

~ Word order.
~ 'When I see him' does not equal 'If I see him'.
~ 'so called' doesn't translate whatever it is: 'so benamt'? - they
want something like 'what is known as' - *"I live in the so-called
Black Forest".
~ Misuse of present continuous *'I am coming from Bavaria'.
~ Fortis/voiced use of some consonents *'I am comink from Bavaria'.
Not that these are tips, but they're common problems. For the full
dope see Swan & Smith 'Learner English'.
DC. Actually 'don't patronise your teacher' would be a really good
tip, especially for Austrians... |
