I've been aware of the slang meaning of this term for many years (early
'70s in Portland, Oregon), and I even heard it from a black person in
Kansas City as recently as couple of years ago.
I just saw the movie Madagascar http://snipurl.com/jkez , and it has a
character, Marty the Zebra, who has the voice of Chris Rock
http://chrisrock.com/ . I can't tell, but I think he's full black. Maybe
the movie means that Marty is black but has white characteristics. (?)

My question is, how derisive, if at all, is this term? But now, after
searching, it seems the web isn't much aware of this usage, and I
probably won't get an informed answer. I *did* find a usenet mention of
"Zebra" being used to mean mixed-race, but hardly any [1] of the slang
dictionaries list the term.
