Hi,

I was wondering, with the sentence:

"I hurt my knee playing tennis."

what type of verb is "playing"? Is it a gerund? Is it a shorthand for
"while playing"?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Michael

Simply poor grammer.

Graucho Marx said, "One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How
he got into my pajamas, I'll never know."

If I observed my knee playing tennis, I'd probably just give it a good
scolding.

Simply poor spelling.

(Oh, and you're wrong, too.)

Don't know the answer to your question, but try to alter that sentence
like this:
"I hurt my knee while playing tennis."

Perhaps now it's easier to determine (?)
