I cannot seem to find much on this particular phrase on the net; just a few
references that claim it originated as '70s or disco era slang.



When Cole Porter wrote "Let's Do It" in 1928, he clearly was referring to
sex. I wonder if the phrase was used previously or if it was coined from the
song.

Partridge records it from the 18C, but I'd be astounded if anybody
could show that the expression hadn't been in use with that meaning
for centuries longer.
