Lots of them about. Is it a plague of daddy-long-legses, or of
daddy-long-legs, or of daddies-long-legs?

Work like the ponies in coalmines.
Dance like the teardrop explodes.
Love like you're Frank in Blue Velvet.
Sing as though your little throat would burst.

Can't help with that -- but just in case anyone's not aware of this,
it's pondially the name of two entirely different critters.
(Sure are a lot of the UK ones about this year, though, whatever the
plural is.)

Different animal than the UK (where it's the name for a crane fly
rather than a spider).

I'm told it's due to a dearth of wasps which is due to a cold snap in
spring. Must be true - bloke in the pub said so.

A plague of harvestmen, in the US. There are no harvestwomen.

I use the same term for singular and for plural. As soon as you say a
"plague" of them, the listener and reader will have no trouble understanding
you are expressing a plural. All the daddy-long-legs are missing one leg. |

I'll trade ya' cites:

For what it's worth, Collins also has it as two words rather than one,
but it might be an either/or choice in international naming circles.
