I have no idea of how to understand the word 'zapped' in the following
sentence. Thanks.

'That was how they'd meet, on-line, when Jay had been "zapped" while chasing
the guy with the quantum computer.'

It's difficult to tell without the context, but it might mean shot,
with some sort of electronic gun. Are they playing a computer game?

In general, "zapped" indicates pointing an electronic device at
something to achieve an action. E.g. changing the channel on a TV or
reading a bar code.

Yes, in this detective story, Jay, who is a computer op, was chasing the guy
(a net persona of a lady).

A sudden question happened to me and who's using that quantum computer? Jay?
or the guy?

Maybe short of context to understand but, supposing the guy was an online
priest of Buddhism and Jay, who was a computer op, was chasing the guy, is
it possible to translate it into "when Jay had been moved (or impressed)
while following the guy with the quantum computer" ?
