I used to know a word meaning the inability to name an object, & now I
appear to have that condition, I can't remember the word to describe it.
It's 3 or 4 syllables & may begin with an "a", but then again, may not. I
also used to have a trick to remember it, but needless to say, I've
forgotten that too. Couldn't sleep last night for trying to get it.
Any suggestions please?

Aphasia?

Thank you yes, a speedy reply - that's it! It also reminded me of my
forgotten remembrance trick - ( A p(h)rase I'd forgotten, ok a word, or
being phazed by it's loss.

I see that others have suggested "aphasia", which is "an inability to
express thoughts in speech". That covers some of the right area, but a
specific difficulty with names -- particularly people's names -- is
either "nominal aphasia", or "lethenomia".

I wouldn't use "remembrance" in this context, whatever the dictionary might
say.
