Post subject: Pass the smelling salts. |

I saw on the regional news today that Pride and Prejudice is about to
be premiered. It was described as "Jane Austen's historical
bodice-ripper". I must say I hadn't quite seen it in those terms
before...
Then they had a phone-in competition to win a trip to San Francisco -
Complete the following song title "I left my heart in..."
(a) Mansfield
(b) San Francisco
(c) Buxton
Tricky eh? Serves me right for watching ITV news.

It rather reminds me of that cartoon where she is sitting demurely in John
Murray's office while he peruses her manuscript. "Oh yes, Miss Austen, that
should do nicely. Of course, all the effing and blinding will have to
go..."
After the success of the film "Clueless" (1995), there was a bit of a
scramble for works by the original writer, and at least one Hollywood studio
tried to sign her...

There should be Preservation Orders on Jane Austen's historical bodices
to prevent them being ripped.

The easier the question, the more people will phone. The more people who
phone, the more money the TV company will make. (Assuming that it's a
premium rate call as they usually are.)

I'm not surprised. After that infamous and all-too-public kiss at the
end of "Persuasion", I assume that in this new shocker Darcy will shag
Elizabeth until goats come out of her ears (translation from another
language's idiom, in case you were worried), while Bingley gently and
tenderly seduces Jane (with no danger of giving her an orgasm, or
probably any sons either) and Lydia fellates any militia officer that

Right. Let's hope it's out on DVD soon, then. They used the village
where Mrs C's grandparents lived as one of the locations - I hope the
locals were warned to cover their eyes during infamous group-sex
scene.

It would have been more challenging if the alternatives had scanned.
If there's been a choice of, say, Kirby Muxloe or Newport Pagnell then
I'd have been flummoxed.
