Is several 2-5 or 12-15? What is the range of this word?
Or does it work in a completely different way?

It means 'an indefinite number greater than a few but less than many'.
So your several might be someone else's many and a third person's few.

A few would be more than a couple, so let's assume 3-5. That would make
several less than a dozen: so say 6-11.
