/kloUi/. "klo-ee". First syllable like "clothes", "close", "clone"
without the final consonant. Second syllable rhymes with "be", "fee",
"glee", etc.

Yeah, you should hear Cal Tjader (and his Modern Mambo Quintet) play it and
sing it.
There's a clip at
http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/tjader_cal/15272/album.jhtml

Not to mention Spike Jones's immortal rendition. It's purportedly
available at <http://music.yahoo.com/track/1716683>, but I couldn't
get the audio to work.

Klo-ee, with the emphasis on the first syllable.

And if you're a Spike Jones fan, preceded by four notes on a set of tuned
cowbells....r

Ah, yes, cowbells. Spike Jones and Gustav Mahler -- kindred spirits.

Yeah, but Cal Tjader has a special place in my heart. My major sweetie of
that time and I used to go dancing at Club Macumba in San Francisco, and Cal
was playing there.

No, never an umlaut with an E, and never an umlaut anyway in a word
that isn't German. An umlaut indicates a certain modification of the
vowel, not that it is not part of a diphthong.

The two dots in "Chloë" are a dieresis or trema, to indicate that this
is not a diphthong.

They look identical, but then, a capital A looks exactly like a Greek
capital alpha, yet they are different letters.

OK. I think I had the dieresis in parens the last time I used "umlaut". I
was a bit uncomfortable with umlaut, anyway, because in my non-German way, I
find the umlaut forces a diphthong, and I was wanting just the opposite.

Other than that, Mr. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

I get a "Sorry, the sample is unable to be played" with firefox and the
longer "Error / Sorry, the sample is not available at this time. Please
try again later. / Error Code: 28 - 0" with IE.

The allmusic site has some 18 choices of audio clips of Spike Jones
versions of the song. The one at
<http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&token=ADFEAEE57F1CDC4EA97F20C9933246DCBC7FD20CDF51EE861229445E92BB345C913421D44BC0A5BAF8B672AB71B0FD2EA45F43DAC0ED54F6DD622D5DF0&sql=50:efu068p471w0~T>
is from _Louder & Funnier_ and its 719098 bytes are only 30" of the
4'40" of the song. A tiny url for the album link (the song is cut 14)
is <http://tinyurl.com/9vmth>.
