hi,
I'm an international student kenn to do college in the U.S. I've given
the old SAT-1. I got a 1450 (740M,710V). I gave SAT2 Math level 2c(760)
and physics(780). I have frequently been in the top 5 percent of my
class. I also got a prize for Mathematics and Physics. I have a lot of
extra-curricular activities(Prefect,swimming captain,student council
president, press club, math olympiad and quiz captain). I intend to
pursue a degree in engineering or perhaps life sciences. I have picked
7-8 universities to apply to:
John hopkins
Rice
Duke
Cornell
University of Illinois at Urbanna
University of Texas(Austin)
University of California Berkley
what do you think about my choices? any inputs would be extremely
useful. Thanks a lot!!! |

Hello,
I worked in and attended major universities over that last 8-9 years.
I TOTALLY agree with Moca -- from the GW comment to MAJOR Arab
communities at some universities (total Arab pop. relative to
university pop., contrasted to, for example, Hispanics and
Af-Americans, respectfully). (Why? $$$ and/or awesome math skills.)
For example, U of M, Ann Arbor (www.umich.edu) -- MAJOR Arab community;
USC's (www.usc.edu), particularly the engineering school -- you won't
hear the English language as soon as you walk out of class (no, and it
not Spanish that you'll hear -- a So. California joke :-)
Moca also nailed it when he suggest that you target schools
specializing in your discipline (ESPECIALLY Cal Tech
(http://www.caltech.edu/) and MIT (www.mit.edu) . That's critical for
more reasons then we have time for. His link is helpful; I created a
matrix (too complicated to explain) and also used usnews' site (yes, I
paid -- http://www.usnews.com/usnews/rankguide/rghome.htm) and Wall St.
Journal's subsidiary -- http://www.collegejournal.com/.
Good luck,
Peter |
