From what I know, a 95 average from Bronx Science is indeed respectable. I
don't know how many Bronx Science grads make it to MIT, but a large number
of Stuyvesant grads do. I know of Bronx Science grads studying at Cornell
Engineering, at CMU, etc.
If you can make National Merit Semifinalist, do well on math competitions,
do well on SATs including Math I and II, get strong letters of
recommendation, your odds on getting into MIT are greatly improved (unless
your self-identified ethnic group is "over-represented" at MIT).

with similar grades at an "average" high school? I ask this as I
ideally wish to go to MIT or another school that is of similar caliber
in math and science, and I would like an objective opinion concering
this.
Thank you in advance for all who reply. |

Assuming you keep your grades up, you are likely a strong candidate
for Cornell, Penn, Dartmouth, Brown, Chicago, Duke, the top liberal
arts colleges, and possibly Caltech. Harvard, Yale, Princeton,
Columbia, Stanford, and MIT are potentially reachable with solid
extracurriculars, but don't get your hopes up *too* highly.
Assuming you're currently not a junior, start thinking hard about an
Intel STS entry; a top 40 (finalist) finish is the closest thing on
Earth to a college "Turbo Admit" other than an Olympic gold medal, and
even a semifinalist ranking will prove a huge advantage.
