"For Your Information"
You may also see "411", after the number for telephone directory
information in the US. |

Hey dude,
It means "For your edification".
Why the initial I to stand for "edification"? Good question.
edification comes from the Latin ĉdificare, meaning "to build".
(Think: edifice)
ĉ (i.e. 'ae' if my newsreader messes up the posting) is pronounced "i"
as in "aisle" or "eye".
Hence, "For your ĉdificationem."
HTH! (That means "Hither, thither, and henceforth")

| It stands for 'For your information, not that you asked'. |
