I agree with everyone about the tri-annual and triennial for an event that occurs thrice-yearly or every three years. However, is there a name for the four month period reletive to a year? Six months is half a year therefore we have the first half and the second half. Three months is a quarter giving us first quarter, second quarter, etc.

A friend of mine's business uses 3 four month cycles during a year for scheduling work time. Basically, I guess I am looking for the term, if there is one, for one third of a year (four months). There is always the word 'third' but first third, second third just doesn't sound right. First trimester, second trimester?

I guess there is always the convention used by Click and Clack of NPR's Car Talk, "Coming up in the third half of our show..." Wink
