"Best" high schools? I doubt it. I mean, I'm sure that many of the "best"
high schools are on the list. But this is simply a list of the high schools
where the most kids are encouraged to take AP exams. |

A school that does not encourage students to take AP exams is not a
good school in mho. While the order is questionable, the list probably
missed very few good schools, due to non-participation.
BTW, the list showed 19 schools each from Fla & NY in the top 100. Ca
came in a distant 3rd. The caveat is that it does not include Magnet
schools that are more numerous in some states and does not report on
percentage of 5's. |

It doesn't include results at all. A school gets a higher place on this list
by calling its classes "AP" and having kids take the tests, even if a very
low proportion of them get decent results. I'm sure there are schools were
the policy is to place as many kids as possible in AP classes, even if it
means they have to dumb down the class and the students have no chance of
getting a reasonable score, and other schools where they try to restrict
those classes to very high-performing students and conduct them at a higher
level.
Scanning through it, I found two high schools in my immediate area. By other
measures--such as our state standardized tests, which are quite demanding
and must be taken by virtually all students, as well as college admissions--
there are at least two more high schools in our area that are at least fully
equal to them.
I didn't see Bronx Science or Stuyvesant on the list--that's ridiculous.
As I said, I'm sure that the schools on the list are good. But the idea of
ranking them this way and trumpeting it as a list of "the best" is just
simpleminded. |

You did not see the caveat, that no magnet schools, such as Bronx
Science, that require entrance testing are included? |
