Post subject: Tom Wolfe and Georgia Tech |
|
|
Tom Wolfe's 1998 bestseller "A Man in Full" uses Georgia Tech students
and alumni as the central charaters to plot a bitterly accurate and
funny portrayal of The "New" South, racism, Atlanta and Georgia Tech.
All are skewered with documentary precision. No wonder the book was
hated in Georgia, panned at Georgia Tech and Wolfe accused of
betraying Atlanta's Southern hospitality. Highly recommended to
parents and students considering Georgia Tech. You'll learn things
here that the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and GT admissions will never
tell you. |

This just in ----
Has anyone noticed the similarities between the UGA Marcus Dixon case
and the plot of "A Man in Full" - In both cases a black Georgia
athlete (Dixon at UGA and in Wolfe's fiction at Georgia Tech) has
consentual sex with a white girl and then gets accused of rape by the
white establishment - coincidentally, in the state responsible for the
most lynchings - Truth is stranger than fiction. |
