Okay, this is my academic plan for transfering in fall 2005; please look
over it and tell me what you think.
2004, spring; this semester,
Calculus I
Advance C++ //to finish C++
Art and History // to fit the IGETC requirements
//java class got canceled
// and the german second semester is too difficult for me to start now
// in the second week
2004, summer;
Spanish 1st semester // i want to take only foreign
languages
spanish 2nd semester // in the summer because i think any
// other class, such as math, would be
// too difficult for me to complete in
// a summer
2004, Fall
English: critical thinking
Calculus II
Intro to Physics
Political science // can i take this in spring ,
// 2006 after i apply? I am unsure
// if i want to take it that
// semester with that load, but oh
//well i guess i will if i have to
// or fill like it.
2005, spring
Calculus III
Engineering Physics I
Intro to Chem
History // can i take this in spring ,
// 2006 after i apply?
2005, summer
Japanese I
Japanese II
2005, Fall
Calculus and differential equations // this completes math
Engineering Physics II
General Chemistry // this completes chemistry
// requirements
Intro to Biology // this completes Biology for
// IGETC
I apply to a university, which will let me finish my physics requirements
in the spring of 2006
2006, Spring
Engineering Physics III // this completes physics
// requirement for UCLA

Spockie, what community college are you attending, or planning to attend?
If it is local to southern California, there should be fairly regular visits
from the UCLA admissions department. The frequency is monthly for many
colleges, but it depends on your distance from UCLA. The UCLA transfer
advisers will be able to answer your questions much more specifically.
Be advised it is a tough transfer. I believe that UCLA received more
applications than any college in the US, north of 40,000 for last fall. I
have not seen the numbers yet. Admissions are running about 22 percent for
transfers if I remember correctly.
What major are you planning? Almost any SEAS major is a tough admit. CS is
very tough.
One alternative, if you want to go the CS route, is to apply as a math major
and take the mathematics of computing option - it will get you into about
half of the CS department courses. There's also the Program in Computing,
which is the equivalent of a CS minor.
If you don't get admission to UCLA, I recommend UCSD, UCSB, and UCI as very
good alternatives.
For some reason I thought you were going to ASU.
Good luck, and please let us know how it turns out,
Hank Murphy
