Sure. Capon-cote, hen-cote, hog-cote, entrecote, pig-cote,
pigeon-cote, swine-cote, salt-cote. To do with 'cote' being the
traditional term for a small structure which shelters animals.
|
Entrecote (as described by several dictionaries):
rib steak: a piece of beef without any bone, cut from between the ribs.
So, we store "entres" and salt as we do hens and pigs?
Or, are rib steaks and salt(s) kinds of animal?
Curious. (That is, I'm curious.)

Without looking it up, I'd say it wasn't just animals. "Cot"
certainly = "cottage", and I imagine "cote" is probably the same
word.
|
Indeed. OED suggests a small detached house "such as is occupied by poor
people or labourers". Though it regards it as "now only dial."
Personally I think the "or" is magnificent. Very C19.
'cote' is also "when a Grey~hound goeth endways by his fellow, and
giueth the Hare a turne+but if he coast and so come by his fellowe, that
is no Cote"

Could be worse -- you could be harboring summa them pesky entres. |

If there's more than one, it's a catscote ... or a cote of many
collars.
The census varies...this morning, with the rain, there were two...I've
seen as
many as six out there at a time....
|
That's either a really big barbecue or really small cats. |

Not here, we prefer ours at least medium.

I doubt you'd find a right-winger living in a co-op -- more
likely a townhouse.

Not at all. In New York at least, the co-ops are where the really
well-entrenched rich people live. Arrivistes often have to settle for
condos. Townhouses are more varied -- it depends on where it is, how big it
is, do you occupy the whole building, etc. |

I think anything likely to be *called* a "townhouse" in New York is likely
to be inhabited by relatively wealthy people. Co-ops, however, are at
least as likely to house middle-class people as the rich.

Not being aware of that Right Coast usage, I'm thinking more of
the commune type of co-op.
