Could you plz tell me how can I get a scholarship or a loan or something
like that to study in San Diego Ca.I'm from Mexico, but I have friends in
the U.S. (San Diego) who would take me in and all but the problem is the
tuition which
is way out of my league. As I understand it normally people take out a
loan, but the friend who i would be staying with told me that I can't get
it because
i'm not a u.s. citizen.
if you can help me i will apreciate it.

International students are not eligible for U.S. government backed loans
which are available only to U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens -
those holding a "green card."

If you does not qualify for any of the government-backed loans, you
would have to obtain a private loan either on your own credit history or
in most cases with someone else co-signing the loan.

Further, as a non-citizen you don't qualify for any government issued
grants or scholarships. But an individual school may have funds of it's
own that it might use for you. It varies by school.

Your best step is to contact the schools you are interested in and
discuss this with the Director of Financial Aid. Generally you are more
likely to find funds available for international students at the private
colleges.

Also, go to http://www.edupass.org/finaid/ which has a lot of
information for international students.
