qualify for financial aid of any kind for summer because of her FAFSA. Does
this sound correct?

Maybe. But not because of how she marked her expected attendance on the
FAFSA.
Most colleges don't have any gift aid available for the summer. If the
student didn't use up her full Stafford loan for the year already they
can give her that, but chances are she already got her full freshman
allotment of $2,625. Sometimes they can find summer work-study.
But if they are saying that she's already received as much as she was
eligible from the FAFSA, then there is no further aid.
Another thing, many colleges want a separate written request for summer
aid by a certain date, and it's likely that the date is long past now.
