Post subject: Are scholarships negotiable? |
|
|
Hi all,
I just got a scholarship offer from a school. I was expecting a full
ride. But. I got somewhere around 75%. Question is: Are
scholarships negotiable? Is it offensive to counter-offer a
scholarship? Has anyone ever done so?
This is for law school and I just found out that I'm not allowed to
work during my first year and have no idea how I'm going to afford the
other 25%....
Thanks,
Jackson

You can always go back and ask for re-consideration, but 75% at a law
school is very good.

As a graduate student you will be able to borrow up to $18,500 in
Stafford loans to cover the balance of the total cost of attendance.

Yes they are and don't be afraid to ask !!!!!
6 years ago my daugheter was entering college and was a top applicant
to the college she wanted to attend. The school gave her a 50% merit
scholarship (abount $10,000 a year x 4). I had several discussions
with the schools FAO and asked for an increase several times. He
polietly said no. I wrote a letter to the President of the University
and laid out my case. The FAO called back a few weeks later and
increased the offer by $10,000 ($2,500 per year). He asked why she
deserved more than other equally qualified applicants. My answer - I
asked, they didn't. The worst that can happen is that they say no.
In that case, you have not lost a thing since you didn't have it
anyway. Some people would be embarresed - for $10,000 you can color
me red.
