When I was in my 20's and married I took out a few student loans.

Well my husband and I divorced, he left me with the kids and no child
support and I was of course never able to pay back the student loans.
I was lucky to put a house over our heads.

What does the government expect me to do? Do I have to live with no
credit the rest of my life? Now I'm back in school trying to get my
Masters. I heard I can't get any kind of financial aid now because my
loans defaulted since it's been 20 years. Do you think the stupid
government would ever try to help me and make the payments doable for
me or something? Why don't they go after my ex and make him pay part
of them back since he owes me 20 years of child support?

Is the only answer they are leaving for me is to move to Mexico or
what?

Call the government and tell them your story for starters. See where it gets
you.

Your student loans probably pertain to the Federal government. Your
child support issues are probably state issues. You should perhaps
get a lawyer to see how the child support payments can be enforced.

Enter into a repayment agreement to repay the default. You can... obtain a
consolidation loan with the federal government at the following web site -
without making any payments on your current loan... Apply for an income
contingent repayment plan at http://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/.

:|>Do I have to live with no credit the rest of my life?

Nope - but you do have to act on resolving the problem.... that will clear up
your credit -

This is correct.

Sure - anything is doable - but you need to take action now... and you will have
to agree to a new repayment agreement of some sort... Talk to the holder of
your defaulted student loans and inquire - but just don't inquire and be evasive
at the same time... inquire with the thought of resolving your default problem.

Child support is a separate issue... and they can go after your ex-husband for
back child support... if certain conditions apply... like he was ordered to pay
the child support originally... Depending on the state you live in... you can
initiate the process quite easily.. go to http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/cse/
and research with the federal requirements are... I believe that this site also
has links to individual state child enforcement agencies - well at one time it
did... As an aside - do you hire one of those "child support collectors". I
have not heard of a good one out there and your state has resources that you
could use first.

:|>Is the only answer they are leaving for me is to move to Mexico or
Neutral>what?

This depends on what your desires are - but you will eventually be found in
Mexico or anywhere else you choose to live...
