Post subject: custodial parent |

|
what constitutes the custodial parent? after i turned 18 there is no
custodial parent right? Is there a way the fafsa people check this to
make sure i dont just choose which of my remarried parents make less
money?

For financial aid, there is a custodial parent until you qualify as an
independent student - by answering yes to any of the questions 48-54 on
the FAFSA. Otherwise, the custodial parent is the one that you lived
with the most in the past 12 months. If that can't be determined, then
it is the one that provided the most financial support in the past 12
months or the last most recent year that financial support was received.

claiming the correct parent as my custodial parent, otherwise I'll
just claim the one who makes less

Any confirmation will be done by the college itself, and if they find
your information to be incorrect they can revoke awarded aid, deny
future aid, and in worst cases expel you and report it to the feds for
prosecution.
