Just did a rough calc. of the expected family contribution - uggg - almost
10K.

1) Is this number per year ?

2) Would we expect to recieve grants or scholorships if school costs per
year are below our EFC ? ( say, for example, a music scholorship, where the
school wanted a particular musician to attend thier school. )

3) How are campus housing costs taken into consideration ? Are they added to
the total costs for the year, or is payment of these expenses seperate and
not subject to aid.

Thank You for any help,

Devon

Yes, for the coming year. You'll do another FAFSA for each future year
and the EFC may change.

If your cost of attendance is below the EFC, you cannot receive any
need-based grants or scholarships. The school can give merit
scholarships that are not need based if they see you as a superior student.

For aid purposes, the total cost of attendance includes tuition, fees,
room, board, books, and other miscellaneous expenses. If the EFC is
below that total, you have eligibility, or need, for aid.

Devon, my school has a list of what they expect a year to cost on
their financial aid website. I believe this is the total they use
when figuring up students need for FA. They include books, fees,
tuition, housing, board and things like that. My tuition is only 8K
and they figure the total cost to be around 23K a year.
