Post subject: Need help with networth question. |
|
|
I am having trouble answering the net worth question on the FAFSA.
Does anybody know exactly what that means? We have a retirement IRA,
but I don't think that counts in networth.. Are we supposed to add up
stuff like the vehicles, furniture, and "stuff" we own and include
that?

Here is the actual question:
As of today, what is the net worth of the student's (and his/her
spouse's) current investments (question 44)?
Net worth means current value minus debt. If net worth is one million
or more, enter 999999. If net worth is negative, enter 0.
Investments include real estate (do not include the home the student
lives in), trust funds, money market funds, mutual funds, certificates
of deposit, stocks, stock options, bonds, other securities, education
IRAs, college savings plans, installment and land sale contracts
(including mortgages held), commodities, etc. Investment value
includes the market value of those investments as of today. Investment
debt means only those debts that are related to the investments.
Investments do not include the home the student lives in, cash,
savings, checking accounts, the value of life insurance and retirement
plans (pension funds, annuities, noneducation IRAs, Keogh plans,
etc.), or the value of prepaid tuition plans.

Investments do not include retirement IRA's, nor vehicles, furniture and
"stuff". Also don't include checking and regular savings reported in
question 43.
