Summary: We need a creative productname?

The final approach we've selected is to get a word that doesn't
exist at all, just like Google once did. So we came up with words
like hakkadoo, ippix, dadido and ipsiwipsi. Bit childisch though.

"Google" was taken from an existing mathematical term meaning (to
the degree required by its founders) "a very big number"

Oh no it wasn't.

From their site at
http://www.google.com/corporate/index.html
What's a Google?

"Googol" is the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. The
term was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician
Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, "Mathematics and the
Imagination" by Kasner and James Newman. Google's play on the term
reflects the company's mission to organize the immense amount of
information available on the web.

I'm still not convinced that "google" was "taken from" googol. I
reckon they found an unused but pronounceable word, registered it in
all territories and then happened on an explanation.

However, I was really commenting on the fact that "google" is not
"googol".

Nobody claimed that it was. You reacted to "taken from", not "is".

a) yes, I did, you're right and I went too far in my protestation,
but
b) I was fired up by the first reply to the OP, which was:

Clearly not "Google" Smile

which implies that "google" was a word, before Google.

Clearly not "Google" :-)

Really? What do you think "google" meant before Google?

Well, if one simply types "google eyed" into Google (groups) you will find over
1000 entries going back to 1988.

as in :-

who get all google- eyed watching flipper

it is time for all of us
die-hard Macintosh gamers to stop staring google-eyed at shitty PC games

Anyone doing a Phd in Theoretical Chemistry must be an anti-social,
google-eyed masochist,

whether such usage is correct or not is not the point .. a large number of
people obviously googled long before Google.

OK?

OK, but I never came across that - I would say "goggle-eyed".

But if you sing it, it comes out "With the goo, goo, googly eyes".

Unless you'd rather sing "Ipsi wipsy teeny weeny yellow email
in-betweeny"
