Post subject: Accent variety within European languages other than English |
|
|
Hi,
As a North American living in England I find the variety of Accents and
the whole concept of the subjectivity of an accent (e.g. the concept of
"poshness level") so much more complex and fascinating than what we have
in North America.
I'm wondering though, is there a similar level of accent complexity in
other European languages & countries or is it less so than with
English/the UK?
thanks for any insight,
John

I'd say the variety in Germany is even greater.

Even in a country as small as Latvia, those in Riga can hardly understand
the people from Latgale (the eastern part of Latvia). The rest of the
dialects are not too difficult to understand, though.
