I have recently encountered the need to run the OED from the hard disk of
my notebook. (I need to use another disc in the CD-ROM.) I have version
1.14 of the OED software, but I have been told that an earlier version
permitted installation of the data file to the hard disk.

Would anyone be willing to send me a copy of the earlier version of the
software?

Would you be willing to send it to me?

There are other solutions. Windows XP has an extension called "winxp
virtual control panel." The utility did not make it into the production
release, but it's easy to find on the web. Microsoft wrote it. It also
works fine under Win2K. If you install it, you can create a virtual CD
drive. (For example an X drive or Y drive.) Then you copy your CD to your
hard drive as an ISO file, which you can do with software such as Nero or EZ
CD creator. Once the ISO is on your hard drive, you mount it to a virtual
drive. In other words, you associate a drive letter with that ISO, and it
appears as a CD drive. Then you can run software from your CD just as if it
were in a drive. That also assumes that your hard drive has enough room.

Since I don't know if you are sending email from your notebook, I have no
idea if your OS is XP or not, so you may need to look for something else.
