Me, neither. But of course that has little to do in my case with the
German Server.

But will he run if nominated and will he serve if elected? And how much
time will he spend on vacation because the job is so much hard work?

Still down. I noticed it about the same time Franke asked (about 9:30 pm
CST). Just now decided to try my ISP's server. No problem here. |

Since I have *only* the German server,[1] I wasn't able to send a post
about the situation. (I did email the server folks, though.) But it's
back up, now, so let us give thanks.
[1] With SBC-Yahoo, there is no good way to access Usenet. Yahoo has a
few groups, but they really just encourage lists and message boards of
some kind. Phooey. If there's some secret to getting aue through
SBC-Yahoo, I'd sure like to know what it is. It would be nice to have a
back-up for times like these.

If you can access Yahoo and other Web sites, surely you can access
Google Groups 2 Beta. That's better than nothing.

The regular edition of Google groups is anywhere from 3-9 hours behind
time, but I think GG2Beta is real-time. Mike Lyle knows more about it
than I do, though.

There's some pretty offensive terminology. |
--
So I was feeding the hummingbirds but not changing the feeder sugar
water quickly enough and it fermented into something like that stuff
that Hunter S Thompson was drinking in the Rum Diary, anyway, so I had
these drunk birds flying everywhere just like mosquitoes in Minnesota,
dashing up one side of me, darting down the other, crashing into the
windows, falling off their perches, didn't even know they perched,
flying backwards, flying backwards, it was like something out of the
Exorcist. After a while though, I got bored with it all. Next Summer I'm
going to Alaska to feed french bread soaked in Wild Turkey to polar
bears. Wish me luck! |

Why would you expect one in a distributed system? |

I still have it bookmarked, along with Google Groups Old Style. But I
haven't checked its functioning for several weeks. It's at:
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/alt.usage.english?msg=subscribe
I'm also replying via Google Beta to see what happens.

Generally the secret is just asking your ISP. At least when a new group
comes on the scene, it often doesn't get picked up and people will have to
ask their ISPs to add the group.
I also asked the German server people to add the dfw.* hierarchy, and they
would have done so, but there was a problem. dfw.* rules require a certain
tag about reporting abuse to the server in the message header, but the
German server purposefully doesn't include it. |

I didn't, but the mere fact I didn't didn't preclude one from happening. |
