Post subject: 2nd post - please reply - Will my final quarter count toward |
|
|
I have a question that is related to my chance of risking losing the
higher honors designation, if I were to mes up my final quarter.
According to me, it seems that the final quarter is excluded, but I
want to clarify this anyway. My school's policy is:
"Honors and high honors designations are based on a student's
cumulative grade point average in all courses for which grades have
been submitted through the quarter prior to the graduation quarter."
I have a fall quarter from Oct-Dec and a winter quarter from Jan-Mar.
I graduate in March. Does this mean that my scores in my winter
quarter will not affect my chances of getting honors? I can get a 'C'
in my last quarter for both courses (we do 2 courses a quarter) and I
will be fine? Is this policy 'typical' or is it unique to my school.
If so, why do schools have this policy. Is my 'graduation quarter' the
same as my winter quarter?
WHile the answers may be obvious, I really would like to know that my
interpretation is correct and that I really do not have to be
concerned about performing well in the final quarter. Is there any
reason I should be concerned about the final quarter - would I not get
a magna cum laude etc. if my GPA dipped as a result of the final
quarter? I have a 4.0 GPA so far. It seems that while my GPA would dip
as a result of a C, it would be irrelevant to me getting higher
honors. Am I correct in this assessment?
Thanks!

You seem to be under the impression that terms like "higher honors" have
some universally defined and understood meaning. In the United States,
they do not. Here, the term "high honors" was invented by your school, so
it isn't much good to ask a wider audience about the finer details of its
definition and implementation.
My reading of the text you quoted for us is that the grades for your final
semester do not count for the designation of higher honours. The only way
for you to be sure of this is to actually talk to an academic advisor at
your school.
