Post subject: Financial Assistance for Graduate Program |

Hello Eveybody
I have just arrived in Ontario, Canada and I am looking at options for
joining a Masters Degree program. The Ontario province has a student
loan program (OSAP) but I am not eligible for it because I have to be
a resident of Ontario for 1 year. So I am looking at other options of
funding my education. I have a job right now but the salary is not
that good.I am interested in knowing:
1. Are ther any other good options for student loans/grants?
2. If I join a University in USA what are the options of funding
there? Can I get work on F1 visa?
If anyone of you have been in this kind of situation then let mw know
waht was your experience.

If you're not on a permanent residence visa, you'll never be eligible for
OSAP, so I assume you are.
I also assume that you just arrived from outside of Canada. If you came from
another province, you could get loans there.
In BC, there is a little known and unpublicized exemption that if you are a
permanent resident who arrived straight into the province, you can get
funded to go to a BC university, even if you havn't completed 12 months of
residency. Its likely that Ontario has a similar policy. If you havn't
already, call them up and ask some questions -don't rely on the osap
website or opinions of others.

Also note that you are highly unlikely to get into any half decent program
for Fall 2004 (given that it is now June), so you'll have to start in 2005
anyway. Even legitimate trimester schools limit graduate Spring and Summer
admissions to virtually zero.
