I am not quite sure the exact meaning as below.
"He is a generous to a fault."

Would anyone explain it to me?
Thanks.

Being generous is a good thing. But if you are too generous you might give
away too much and become needy yourself.
Generosity in that case could be called a fault in your character; a
weakness.

Also, generosity can sometimes be harmful to the recipient.

The phrase is actually: Generous TO a fault.

No "a" before generous. Generous is an adjective.

Thanks, Alan, that's what I thought it meant, but I really had no way
to be sure (other than looking it up or asking someone).

I think that was Adrian - I didn't notice it myself!

That is correct, it should be without "a".

Because of a severe server crash at my ISP, I was not able to receive
any articles posted:
from about 4AM, EDT, on Tuesday, September 28
until 1:32PM, EDT, on Thursday, September 30.

If you posted during that time, I wasn't able to receive the post or
reply to it.

And even in this thread, I know that Alan O'Brien replied to me
because I got the header, but I didn't try to get the post at the same
time, and I can't get it now. I'm almost sure it's not even on the
temporary server they are using.
