Why is it taking forever for me to get my money???? I'ts been a whole
bleedin' week and still no money in my account. I thought the whole
point of transferring money thru bacs and not cheques was because its
supposed to be quicker but guess what? IT AIN'T!!! I'm a 3rd year and
I was hoping to get this loan asap so that I can budget myself so that
I dont over spend but now I'm buggered cos I dont know what i can and
cannot afford!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
Will the student loans company just get their act together????

It's probably paperwork that's holding them up; there are bound to be
all sorts of rules and regulations that they have no control over.
But just in case, try phoning them to ask when it should be arriving
in your account. Read a book while you're waiting for them to pick up
the phone (it's probably busy), and make sure you have all your
details with you (loan account number, bank account number, etc) ready
for when they ask.
Do remember this is a busy time for them: chances are they've just
got off the phone with another stressed student, or possibly with a
stressed student's angry mother. So if you can sound relaxed and calm
to them, that'll revive their spirits a little and make them that much
more willing to help you.
There is also a limit to what a phone operator can do -- they can't
transfer the money themself. But if they're not providing you any
useful information, then ask to speak to their supervisor. (Speak
*very* calmly to the supervisor: the supervisor gets all the *really*
angry people, so could doubly do with a break.) And if they are
helpful, say a nice 'thank you'.
(Yes, I admit it, I've been a student loan call centre operator
myself.)
Hopefully you can get an answer from them that will relieve a little
of the uncertainty.

hi there,
I think taking grants and bursaries away from scottish students and
replacing them with student loans is ridiculous. Students from a
working class back ground,living away from home with no parental aid,
This is unfair as it means that by the time a student finishes
college or university they may have to start their working life with a
huge loan to pay off. It will take many years to pay this back and
during this time there will be no mortgage or bank loan available to
these students. It is very unfair of the labour government to expect
young people to start off their lives like this.

I work in financial aid and I've seen the same problem. At our school it
takes 6-8 weeks for a loan to be processed. Part of the reason for this is
that there are several offices that an application must go through before
the funds can be disbursed. You must pass the loan agency's credit check,
your school must certify your loan application that it is within school
guidelines and lastly, the loan has to go back to the agency to be paid out.
So, try to hold on and hopefully the funds will be disbursed to you soon!
