What's your opinion on a 2nd Bachelor degree.

I've always had a strong desire to study philosophy, however my
Bachelors degree was in Computer Science. Now I want to go back to
school for a Bachelors in Philosophy Politics and Economics
(preferably at Oxford).

Would appreciate if you can if share your advice on the following:

- At 24/25 years of age, with approximately 4 years of industry
experience as a Technical Sales Specialist at a prestigious IT
company, would a bachelors degree be intellectually challenging?

- Considering that most of the students will be 18-19 year olds, would
the age difference and the consequent difference in the level of
maturity be a problem.

What do you think?

If you had burning questions that you felt only an in-depth study of
philosophy could answer, would you quit your job, join a bunch of 18
year olds, and relive university life to get the answers you want?

Yes. Well, maybe not if you only put in as much energy as the average
"just got out of high school, moved away from home, now it's time to
party" first year student. But you get to choose how much effort to
put into it, and that's what largely determines how much you get out of
it.

No. There are plenty of students at university these days in their
30s, 40s, 50s ... 90s...

Sure. I don't know if philosophy will really give you the answers,
though; it seems more to me like it just uncovers a whole bunch more
questions. But this may be a time where the value is in the journey,
not the destination.

I believe a 2nd Bachelor is a good idea if you have the desire to go
back to college and if you want to continue with your education. I,
for instance, am going back to college this Spring 2005 after
graduating this December 2004. I started at school with a so many
majors in mind. I took classes here, I took classes there. Different
subjects from computer information system, to criminal justice, to
sociology. But with the rate I was going, I wasn't getting anywhere.
So I decided to finish a major. In addition, I began to wonder about
Accounting because I've always like organization and numbers. But if
I drop everything and persue accounting, it will be another two years
for me. So I decided to finishe school this Fall and persue my other
bachelor in accounting. It's actually not 2nd Bachelor, it's more of
a post-certificate, but once I'm done with the program, it will feel
like I just got my 2nd Bachelor degree.

It's never too late or too old to go back to school anyway.
Good Luck on your adventure.
