Post subject: Cell phone use on college campuses... |
|
|
Hey there! I'm hoping you all will give me your opinions about cell
phone use on campus. I'm a senior and have just noticed over the
course of my time at college that everbody has cell phones, and
they're always on them! It seems like every time I come out of class,
about a million people immediately take their cell phones out and call
someone. I'm not saying cell phones are a bad thing -- I have one
myself, but I don't even take it to class with me and really have it
more for emergencies than anything else. Any insights or
observations? I'd love to hear your opinions.

I also see people talking on there cell phones a lot. Sometimes
before the class starts people will be sitting talking, or even when
class has started people's cell phone will start to ring. |

I've been an avid cellphone user for over 3 years now (I know, not the
longest time in history, but gotta start somewhere) and I can honestly
say that my cellphone is used for many more things than emergencies!
It's become the only phone I have anymore. Living off campus yet still
attending college keeps me on my feet and moving all day long. It's
cheaper and more economical for me to have a cellphone (with
voicemail, caller ID, free long distance, etc... included). I also use
my phone to access the internet. I have my email account forward any
important emails to my phone so that I can instantly become aware of
them and even respond if need be. I'm constantly talking to people to
setup plans for the night, inform my family of how i'm doing, contact
classmates regarding homework, even chatting with my girlfriend about
how her day has gone. Cellphones these days CAN be annoying if used in
inappropriate situations, but I believe the majority of them are being
used for a worthwhile and meaningful cause.

Cellphones can also are being adapted by many college campuses to be
used in the dorms instead of landline based phones. Colleges have been
finding this cheaper in cost and more effective as a cash cow! |

there mobile, as in, is your mobile an extension to your identity? |

An inquiry to the mobile phone lovers, how do you view your phone in
relation to you. Apart from an essential piece of equipment, does
your phone relate to your identity? |
